Southern Cross Tatting

Hi, welcome to my website.

My name is Alexandre, and I love to tat.

When I was choosing a name for this website, I tried to think of something related to Brazil, the country where I live.

That's when I had the inspiration to name it "Southern Cross Tatting". Southern Cross (in portuguese: Cruzeiro do Sul) is the constellation that serves as a geographic and cultural guide for those living below the Equator. With its unmistakable cross shape, it helps locate the Celestial South Pole and is a landmark of southern astronomical identity.

The image bellow is a digital illustration that highlights the iconic shape of the constellation (for educational purposes), making it easier to visualize how the stars are organized in the night sky:

The image is an artistic representation made with Gemini, Google's AI assistant, because I couldn't find any pictures of this constellation that were free to use. But it perfectly illustrates the cross-like shape that gives the group its name. In nature, the Cross is composed of four main stars that form the "body" of the cross, plus a charming fifth, smaller star affectionately known in Brazil as the "Intrometida" (the Interloper).

Our national flag is illustrated with this constellation. However, Brazil is not the only country that features the Southern Cross constellation on its flag: Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Australia, and New Zealand also have this constellation on their flags.

Well, this is the explanation for the name of this website about my adventures in tatting.
